Vennie Davis Garner
(April 18, 1927 - November 4, 2012)
Mrs. Vennie D. Garner, age 85 of Garysburg, NC, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Kindred Transitional and Rehabilitation Center, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Vennie, a daughter of the late Clem and Hattie Davis, was born April 18, 1927 in Halifax County, NC.
She received her formal education through the public schools of Halifax and Northampton County.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Savior, was baptized and joined Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Enfield, NC and remained a member until death. While residing in Garysburg, she often attended services at Chapel Grove Baptist Church.
Vennie was a loving wife, sister, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was well-known throughout the community for being very independent and displayed many acts of generosity. Her philosophy in life was to treat everyone equally and turn no one away in their time of need.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Johnny Garner; a granddaughter: Maria Garner and three brothers: Edward Davis, Fred Davis and William Davis.
Those left to cherish her precious memories are her siblings: Lula Mae Greene of Garysburg, NC and Earnest Davis of Weldon, NC; thirteen children: Hattie Washington of Baltimore, MD, Marie Washington (Johnny) of Washington, DC, Helen Taylor (James) of Weldon, NC, Joe Garner of Garysburg, NC, Vennie Arrington of Garysburg, NC, Maybelle Douglas (Ray) and Tony Garner (Dorothy) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Robert Garner, Louise Goode (Edward) and Nancy Robinson of Garysburg, NC, Clearance Garner of the home, Cynthia Rooks (John) of Gaston, NC and Julia Brinkley (David) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; four god-children; twenty-five grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A Celebration Honoring the Life and Spirit of Vennie Davis Garner will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. from the sanctuary of Chapel Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Garysburg, NC. Rev. John Green will offer words of comfort.
Mrs. Garner will be laid to rest in the Roanoke Salem Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Garysburg, NC.
