Mrs. Lula H. Garner, age 89 of Roanoke Rapids, NC, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Lula, a daughter of the late Charlie Foster Harrison, Sr. and Elizabeth Thorpe Harrison, was born May 6, 1922 in Halifax County, NC.

She received her education through the public schools of Halifax County.

At the age of 13, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Quankey Missionary Baptist Church where she has remained a lifetime member. During her membership at Quankey, she formerly served on the Usher Board.

On March 27, 1942, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Ernest Garner and God blessed their union with five children. Two sons, Leon and Ernest, Jr., preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one grandchild, Alfred Garner, Jr. and all of her siblings.

Lula always had a smile on her face and tackled all obstacles with that smile and her positive attitude. She loved to read, enjoyed watching wrestling, sewing, cooking and truly had a green thumb with all types of plants and flowers.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband of 69 years: Ernest Garner, Sr. of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three children: Donna Garner Murphy (Charles) of Lanham, MD, Alfred Garner, Sr. of Baltimore, MD and Lula Garner Robinson (Charles Wright) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. from the sanctuary of Quankey Missionary Baptist Church, 3265 Highway 48, Roanoke Rapids, NC with the Pastor, Rev. Joseph L. Battle delivering the eulogy.

Interment will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Weldon, NC.

The Cofield Family and Staff extends their heartfelt sympathy and continued support to Mr. Ernest Garner, Sr. and his children, the Garner and Harrison Family during and after this period of bereavement.
