Rufus Dailey, III
(June 27, 1949 - June 26, 2011)
Mr. Rufus Dailey, III, age 61 of Roanoke Rapids, NC, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, June 26, 2011 in the serenity of his home.
Rufus, a son of Mary Estes Kidd Dailey and the late Rufus Dailey, Jr., was born June 27, 1949 in Northampton County, NC.
He received his education from Ralph J. Bunche High School where he played baseball, basketball and also drove the school bus.
In 1969, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp and was Honorably Discharged.
For 27 years, he was married to Mary Alice Harris and together they shared three children.
During the 1980's, he began working at Moore's Lumber Company as a Delivery Truck driver and was loyal in his employment until resigning to take care of his wife who was ill.
In 1991, he became an ordained Deacon at True Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. John B. Moore.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Rushonda Taylor (James) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Janice Dailey and Rufus Dailey, IV of Weldon, NC; five grandchildren: J'Najia K. Taylor, J'Auhn K. Taylor, Se'Veunna K. Dailey, Ta'Nihyah M. Peters and An'Dreiya R. Brown; his mother: Mary Estes K. Dailey of Pahildelphia, PA; three sisters: Doretha Lewis, Rachel Hardy (Randolph) and Phyllis Lane (Clarence), all of Philadelphia, PA; four brothers: Robert Dailey (Magdeline) and Michael Dailey (Mary) of Paterson, NJ, Roger Dailey (Marie) of Teaneck, NJ and Bishop Ralph Dailey (Gloria) of Weldon, NC; aunts and uncles: Rosa Harrell of Weldon, NC, Mary Gary (Gene) and Maxine Gary(Nathaniel) of Jackson, NC, Tearesel Bynum (Frank), Ailzean Clements, Vinson Lee Dailey and Bennie Dailey, all of Garysburg, NC, Elder Langra Dailey (Sharon) of Gumberry, NC, Billie Kidd, Jr. of Tensauken, NJ and Annie Mae Dailey of Philadelphia, PA; the Harris in-laws; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Homegoing Services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. from the sanctuary of St. Peters Missionary Baptist Church, Weldon, NC with Bishop Ralph Dailey delivering the eulogy.
Interment will follow in the Dailey Family Cemetery, Gumberry, NC.
