Mrs. Evelyn R. "Fatgal" Bhuya, age 79 of Henderson, NC, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at her home.
Evelyn, daughter of the late Jefferson "Buster" Reaves, Sr. and Margaret Jones Reaves, was born December 25, 1933 in Halifax County, NC.
At an early age, she confessed faith in Christ, was baptized and joined First Baptist Church-Hodgestown under the pastorate of the late Rev. N.K. Dunn.
She received her formal education in Halifax County and graduated from John Armstrong Chaloner High School in 1952. She then attended Cosmetology school in Charlotte and received her certification as a Nurses' Aide from Halifax Community College.
"Fatgal", as she was fondly called by family and friends, was employed with J.P. Stevens as a spinner and also a Nurses Assistant at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids, Hollister Nursing Home and Carolina Rest Home. She faithfully held employment and retired as a Housekeeper for the late William and Katherine Davis of Davis Insurance and Real Estate.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Adris "Mickey" Bhuya (deceased) and their union was blessed with three children.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings: Jimmy L. Reaves, Zelma R. Pitt and Aubrey Daniel and a niece: Ruth Daniel.
Evelyn is lovingly survived by her children: Adris "Tony" Bhuya and Zelma "Tina" Bhuya of Henderson, NC and Archilles "Val" Bhuya of Roanoke Rapids, NC; seven grandchildren: Angel, Antonio and EveLyn of Germany, Adris Ragland of Henderson, NC, Paris (Makhala) of Gaston, NC, Sasha "Shay" and Archilles "Chillie Willie" of Roanoke Rapids, NC; five great-grandchildren; her brother: Jefferson Reaves, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids, NC; half-sister: Dorothy Pringle of Englewood, NJ; her aunt: Janet Berkley of Fredericksburg, VA; supportive adopted son: Lowell Moody, Sr.; an adopted grandson: Wilbert "Rooks" Mills; sister-in-law: Sarah P. Daniel of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two nieces: Tawana Williams (Jerome) of Garysburg, NC and Avis Reaves of Raleigh, NC; four nephews: Jeffery Reaves of Virginia Beach, VA, Jimmy Reaves of Gaston, NC, William M. Pitt (Karen) of St. Peters, MO and Shelby Daniel of Roanoke Rapids, NC; several great-nieces and great-nephews; a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration Honoring the Life and Spirit of Evelyn Reaves Bhuya will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church-Hodgestown with the Pastor, Rev. Michael E. Simmons offering words of comfort.
Ms. Bhuya will be laid to rest in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
The family will receive friends at the home of her niece, Avis Reaves in Halifax, NC.
