Joseph Delano

Mr. Joseph D. "Dilly" Scott, age 74 of Brooklyn, NY, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Brookdale Hospital, Brooklyn, NY.

Joseph, a son of the late William E. Scott and Bettie Jones Scott, was born June 25, 1938 in Weldon, NC. He was the sixth child and fourth son of the Jones/Scott union and uniquely celebrated two birthdays, the 15th and 20th of June.

He received his education from Halifax County Training School, Weldon, NC.

During his youth, he earned money by caddying at the Chocoyotte Country Club. With the money he earned, he was able to help his family financially, as well as purchase clothing he needed, knowing that his parents could not afford to buy him.

He served a tour of duty in the United States Air Force and was Honorably Discharged on September 1, 1959.

In July, 1960, he married the former Alma Cain and God blessed their union with three children. His wife and two daughters, Tangia and Toya, preceded him in death.

On January 1, 2006, he rededicated his life to Christ and became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC.

For approximately 20 years, he was employed with Brookdale Hospital and Medical Center and retired in 2006.

He is lovingly survived by his son: Quentin Todd Scott (Stephanie) of Charlotte, NC; his god-daughter/niece: Telisha Nicole Stinson (Franklin) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Trevor Vincent of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Javarious and Roderick Frieson of Charlotte, NC; his god-grandchildren: Tristan and Loni Stinson of Charlotte, NC; his sisters: Willie Mae S. Cheatham of Weldon, NC, Marjorie S. Coleman of Brooklyn, NY and Bettie S. Arrington (Clifton) of Halifax, NC; his mother-in-law: Kathelia D. Cain of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three sisters-in-law: Delores C. Coleman (Robert), Gloria C. Edwards and Sophia C. Harrison, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration Honoring the Life and Spirit of Joseph "Dilly" Scott will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Weldon, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Quientrell L. Burrell, Jr., M.Div. will preside and words of comfort will be offered by Rev. Albert E. Clark, Sr.

Mr. Scott will be laid to rest in Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

The Cofield Family and Staff is honored to serve the Scott Family.
