Mrs. Bettie M. Stephenson, age 80 of Garysburg, NC, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in the serenity of her home.
Bettie, a daughter of the late Lonnie Lockhart, Sr. and Susie Robinson Lockhart, was born March 4, 1932 in Northampton County, NC.
At an early age, she confessed faith in Jesus Christ and in later years, she became a faithful member of the Evangelistic Church of Deliverance until her demise. She proudly held the position as a Mother of the Church.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Willie L. Stephenson who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Rebecca Chappell, Elizabeth Moore, Virgie Johnson, Otis Lockhart, Lonnie Lockhart, Jr., Jasper Robinson and Elmo Lockhart.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Samuel Lockhart (Elizabeth) of Lawton, OK, Eula Foreman (Anthony) of Ft. Washington, MD, Barbara Williams (Clarence) of Hampton, VA, Takiya Hakeem (Sali) of Durham, NC, Willie Q. Stephenson of Garysburg, NC, Joe Stephenson (Elizabeth) of Garysburg, NC and other children in the community; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters: Jannie Cameron of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Rockzal Anderson (Bennie) of Oakland, CA and Margaret Ferguson of Washington, DC; dedicated home assistant: Catherine Hale of Roanoke Rapids, NC; past assistants and Interim Healthcare Staff; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
The Spirit and Life of Bettie Mae Stephenson will be celebrated on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 2:30 P.M. from the Evangelistic Church of Deliverance, Weldon, NC. The Pastor, Bishop William H. Cheek, Sr. will offer words of comfort.
Mrs. Stephenson will be laid to rest in the Roanoke Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Garysburg, NC.
