Mrs. Effie M. Brinkley, age 85 of Garysburg, NC, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, August 10, 2012 in the serenity of her home.
Effie, a daughter of the late Tommie and Elizabeth Barnes Moore, began her journey with life on July 16, 1927 in Northampton County, NC.
She received her formal education through the public schools of Northampton County.
At an early age, she confessed faith in Christ and joined Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a member of the Mother Board and Willing Workers until her demise.
For many years, she worked as a homemaker in the homes of Mrs. Running, Mrs. Knox and Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Mosley, to name a few.
On March 23, 1946, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Earlie Lee Brinkley and God blessed their union with ten children. Her husband and three children: George, Florence and Jeanette, preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish her memories are her devoted children: Robert Brinkley of the home, Gloria B. Lewis (Bobbie) and Noralean B. Flythe (David) of Washington, DC, Barbara B. Rook (David), Alice B. High (Andrew) and James Brinkley, all of Gaston, NC and Ernest Brinkley of Clinton, MD; thirty-one grandchildren of which four were reared in her home: David Brinkley of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Veronica Gillard of Youngsville, NC, Gregory Brinkley of Maryland and Archie Brinkley; forty great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; her brother and sister: James Moore (Mittie) of Brooklyn, NY and Mamie M. Rook of Garysburg, NC; her god-daughter: Jacqueline "Jackie" Underdue of Garysburg, NC; two daughters-in-law: Carolyn V. Brinkley and Linda Brinkley; a loving and dedicated caregiver: Susie R. Long of Garysburg, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
The Spirit and Life of Effie Moore Brinkley will be celebrated on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 12:00 Noon from the sanctuary of Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church, Gaston, NC. The Pastor, Bishop Wayne I. Welch, Sr. will offer words of comfort.
Mrs. Brinkley will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
