Norman Willis Taylor

Mr. Norman W. Taylor of Jackson, NC, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC.

Norman, son of the late Thadious W. Motley and Essie Mae Taylor Artis, was born October 10, 1942 in Jackson, NC.

He received his formal education through the public schools of Northampton County.

At an early age he joined the Piney Grove Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. McKinley Nicholson and remained a loyal, diligent and faithful member until his demise. He served as Church Custodian, Usher, Cemetery Chairperson, Sunday School Superintendent Spiritual Leader for the Deacon Ministry, member of the Male Chorus and the Kitchen Committee.

For over 40 years, he was employed at D.L. Boone and Son as Produce Manager. In later years, he became a Correctional Officer at Odom Correctional Center, but his greatest joy was cutting grass for the Town of Jackson and at Piney Grove Baptist Church.

Norman was united in Holy Matrimony to Gloria Williams and God blessed their union with two children. His wife preceded him in death.

Treasured memories will remain with his children: Michelle Taylor-Bell (Gregory) of Raleigh, NC, Norman Jeffrey Taylor of the home, Gregory Williams of Raleigh, NC and Kelly Williams of Jackson, NC; grandchildren: Micaylah and Jaylen Bell of Raleigh, NC and Katifiaha McDaniels of Virginia; a special friend and companion: Louvenia Williams of Jackson, NC; his step-mother: Irma D. Motley of Jackson, NC; siblings: Aubrey Earl Artis, Jr. (Johnetta) of Baltimore, MD, Dallas Artis, Sybil Artis and Mattie Artis, all of Paterson, NJ and Vernon Artis of Camden, NJ, Charles Artis (Ellen) and Sandra Artis of Fayetteville, NC, Sylvia M. Jackson (Larry) and Thadious Motley (Catherine) of Largo, MD, Thelma Elder and McCoy Motley of Norwalk, CT, Robert Motley of Enfield, NC and Terry Motley (Judy) of Landover, MD; uncle and aunts: Lewis Taylor of Jackson, NC, Shirley Tate of New Jersey, Louise Shaw of Woodland, NC and Louise Edwards of Jackson, NC; his mother-in-law: Ella R. Williams of Jackson, NC and the Williams sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. from the sanctuary of Piney Grove Baptist Church, Jackson, NC with the Pastor, Rev. Timothy Edwards bringing words of comfort.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
