Mrs. Topsy C. Bynum Price, 82 of Roanoke Rapids, NC, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Topsy, a daughter of the late Annanias and Eunice Jones Bynum, was born October 17, 1929 in Northampton County, NC.
She received her education through the public schools of Northampton County.
At an early age she was baptized and joined Roanoke Salem Baptist Church and fellowshipped with area churches as long as her health permitted.
For approximately 40 years, she worked as a farmer and her children benefited from her labor. She was also employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
"Topsy", as she was affectionately called, possessed a beautiful spirit and a very warm personality.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Will Davis "Tator Sam" Price and God blessed their union with four children. Her husband and son, Donald Ray Price, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Annie Louise Bynum Wyche, John Rogers Bynum and Rufus Bynum.
Treasured memories will remain with her devoted daughters: Rethella P. Barnes (Sam), Susan P. Hendricks and Doris P. Edwards (James, Sr.), all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; ten grandchildren: Randell and Rondell Garner of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Wanda Ponton of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Tyrell Ponton of Newport News, VA, Tarvis Price (friend, Carmelita Jones), Semaj Edwards (Tonomii), Mario Squire (friend, Takia Lynch), all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, James Edwards, Jr. (fiance, Cali Aycox) of Waynesboro, PA, Teoshia Price of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Lamont Hendricks of New York City; fifteen great-grandchildren; her beloved sister: Nettie V. Wyche of Washington, DC; sister-at-heart: Jerlene W. Britt (Robert) of Seaboard, NC; special cousin: Bertha Mae Bynum of Burlington, NC; brother-in-law: Ralph N. Wyche, Sr. of Philadelphia, PA; sister-in-law: Pattie Fleming of Roanoke Rapids, NC; special nephew: Ralph N. Wyche, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Hodgestown, Roanoke Rapids, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Michael E. Simmons will render words of comfort.
Interment will follow in the Shearins Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
