Mr. Ernest L. Williams, age 79 of Garysburg, NC, departed this life peacefully at his home on Monday, July 16, 2012.
Ernest, son of the late Robert Lee Williams and Blumer Greene Williams, was born March 23, 1933 in Northampton County, NC.
He received his education at Ransom School, Northampton County, NC.
At an early age, he accepted Christ in his life and began his walk with the Lord at Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until his demise.
Being reared on a farm, he was no stranger to hard work. He believed in an "honest days work for an honest days pay". He began working at Haley's Saw Mill and later became a carpenter which he enjoyed doing for more than 40 years until retiring in 1999.
In August of 1954, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Otelia Johnson and their union was blessed with thirteen children.
"Roundel" or "Tender Foot", as he was fondly known, loved being in the company of his children and family members. He demonstrated his sincere love and admiration for other children as well. Whether you were called "little boys, little girls or little girls, little boys", he could be counted on to get a laugh out of those around him.
Treasured memories will remain with his children: James R. Johnson of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Ernest L. Williams, Jr. of Littleton, NC, Elvis E. Williams (Gloria), Bobby P. Williams (Belinda) and Carolyn O. Williams, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, John F. Williams (Pamela) of Fayetteville, NC, Clarence Williams of Garysburg, NC, Clara Williams of Greensboro, NC, Telly S. Williams (Nicole) of Forestville, MD, Clayton R. Williams of Garysburg, NC, Dellegrue Bell of Weldon, NC, Guy Caine (LaShonda) and Helen Caine of Garysburg, NC; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister: Fannie Mae Moses of East Orange, NJ; sister-in-law: Catherine "Tony" Williams of Baltimore, MD; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 2:30 P.M. from the sanctuary of Roanoke Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Jackson, NC with the Pastor, Rev. Dr. Franklin D. Williams, Jr. bringing words of comfort.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
