George Hoover Harding

Mr. George H. Harding, age 81 of Pleasant Hill, NC, departed this life peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.

George, son of the late John A. Harding and Mary Elizabeth Wells- Harding, was born February 14, 1931 in Northampton County, NC.

He received his education through the public schools of Northampton County.

At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized and joined Faithful Band Baptist Church where he attended Sunday School regularly, served as an Usher and remained a faithful member until his demise.

In 1957, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Blondell Moody and God blessed their union with four daughters. His wife and a daughter, Bettie Grace Harding-Smith, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by four sisters: Abry Johnson, Emma Robinson, Viola Sykes, Inez Banks and three brothers: John Wesley Harding, Kermitt Harding and Willie June Harding.

In order to provide for his family, he worked for many years as a machine operator in the cotton gin and retired in 1986.

Treasured memories will remain with his daughters: Blondie H. Key of Pleasant Hill, NC, Linda H. Mayo (James) of Garysburg, NC and Phyllis H. Williams (Harold) of Pleasant Hill, NC; son-in-law: David Smith of Gaston, NC; six grandchildren: Alethea Jones (Brenton, Sr.), Anthony Harding (Abenah), Jamaal Key, Shanice Smith, Johntae Mayo (Cynthia) and Tameka Mayo; five great-grandchildren: Taylor Harding, Brenton Jones, Jr., Kennedie Jones, Semaj Mayo and Cyoutae Mayo; five sisters: Lola Ferguson of Capital Heights, MD, Martha Scott of New York City, his twin, Georgetta White (Arthur) of Brooklyn, NY, Thelma Jefferson (Ben) of Emporia, VA and Dozine Hampton (Rev. Thomas Hampton) of Pleasant Hill, NC; a special friend who he loved as a son: James Epps; his in-laws: Charlie Moody (Annie) of Gaston, NC, David Moody (Ethelene) of Weldon, NC, Melvin Moody (Frances) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Robert Moody (Barbara) of Gaston, NC, Doris Robertson of Richmond, VA, Marie Harding of Richmond, VA, Eloise Moody of Gaston, NC and Helen Moody of Bronx, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 2:30 P.M. from the sanctuary of Faithful Band Missionary Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill, NC with the Pastor, Rev. Gregory L. Evans delivering words of comfort.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
