Mr. Jessie A. Tucker, age 66 of Weldon, NC, departed this life on Tuesday, June 12, 2012.
Jessie, a son of the late Ernest "Wood" Tucker, Sr. and Julia Anderson Tucker, was born March 26, 1946 in Halifax County, NC.
He received his formal education through the public schools of Halifax County.
Early in life, he left home and relocated to New York City and finally Washington, DC for 40 years, where he learned the construction trade and became a well-known contractor. Since relocating to Weldon, he performed many contracts for businesses in both Halifax and Northampton Counties or simply whenever and wherever he was called.
Recently, he began fellowshipping with Way of the Cross Ministry, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Jessie was an avid hunter, fisherman and cook. Cooking meals for himself and sharing them with others was something he loved to do. He gave of himself unselfishly.
In August of 1987, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Victoria "Vicky" Williams of Washington, DC, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carrie Epps and sisters-in-law: Cynthia and Eyvette Tucker.
Those left to cherish his memory are his step-son: Tracy Williams of Washington, DC; five sisters: Annie Bell Tucker, Mae Ellen Clark (Gregory), Catherine Hale (Melvin), Deborah Tucker and Dora Tucker (friend, Steve), all of Weldon, NC; five brothers: Ernest Tucker (Maude) of Washington, DC, Samuel Tucker, Curtis Tucker, Dennis Tucker and Donald Tucker, all of Weldon, NC; god-sister: Velma Merriweather of Weldon, NC; four special aunts: Ella Mae Stansberry of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Annie Bell Harvey (Earlie) of Garysburg, NC, Thelma Anderson and Bernice Anderson of Far Rockaway, NY; three uncles: Earl Anderson (Bertha) of Weldon, NC, James Anderson (Evelyn) of Philadelphia, PA and William Anderson of New York City; eleven nieces and nephews; special friends: Evonne Lynch, Jerome (Helen), Ivan Vincent and Jeffrey Johnson; the birthday gang: "Skeet", "Duke", "Jimmy", "Sonny", "Otis", "Grady", "Garland", "Amos" and "Sykes"; a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Evangelistic Church of Deliverance, Weldon, NC. Rev. John Barham will deliver the eulogy.
Interment will follow in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
