Ms. Janice M. Barnes Banks, age 56 of Roanoke Rapids, NC, peacefully departed this life on Monday, May 21, 2012.
Janice, a daughter of the late Rev. Charles Roger Barnes, Sr. and Mattie Stansbury Barnes, was born July 11, 1955.
She received her education through the Weldon City School System and graduated from Weldon High School in 1973. Her collegiate studies were obtained from Fayetteville State University where she graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
Being reared in a Christian home, she was led to First Baptist Church and was baptized in July of 1962 under the pastorate of Rev. Clyde Johnson, Sr. Janice was very active at First Baptist Church having served as an Usher, member of the Youth Ministry, Young Adult Choir, Drama Ministry and former President of the Singles Ministry.
For quite a number of years, she was employed as Assistant Manager of Patient Financial Services at Halifax Regional Medical Center. At HRMC, she was a bright light to the facility and those who she worked around on a daily basis.
Janice possessed a deep love for her family and friends and she enjoyed cooking, traveling and spending time with "her angel", Tyasia.
Janice is lovingly survived by her daughter and granddaughter: Tiwanda Brown and Tyasia Stansbury of the home; two sisters: Barbara B. Wright (Reginald and Brenda Barnes of Weldon, NC; two brothers: Rev. Charles C. Barnes (Pamela) of Durham, NC and Ronald T. Barnes, Sr. (Cheryl) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; her fiance: George T. Manley, Jr.; two special cousins who she had the "golden privilege" of caring for: Barbara and James Barnes of Weldon, NC; her nieces and nephews: Kevin, Antwan, Jakai, Charles, Jr., Ronald, Jr., Sean, Shantea, Donovan, Keonta, Kiara, Courtney and Kendall; great-nieces and great-nephews; three aunts: Madgie S. Barham of Weldon, NC, Earnestine T. Barnes and Ella Stansbury of Roanoke Rapids, NC; god-children: Marie, Charles, III, Tameka, Lavell and Justin; three devoted friends: Lillie M. Peace, Helen M. Vincent and Barbara Garner; a host of other cousins, relatives and countless friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Weldon, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Quientrell L. Burrell, Jr., M.Div., will preside and the former Pastor, Rev. Johnnie R. Smith, Sr. will deliver the eulogy.
Ms. Barnes will be laid to rest in Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
