James Robert

Mr. James R. "Maine" Brown, age 68 of Pleasant Hill, NC, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at UNC Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC.

James, a son of the late George W. Brown and Verna Mae Clanton Brown, was born September 21, 1942 in Northampton County, NC.

He received his education through the public schools of Northampton County and attended Gumberry High School.

Very early in life, he was baptized and joined Faithful Band Baptist Church.

For many years, he worked as a mechanic, something he really enjoyed doing.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters: Mary B. Harrison of Pleasant Hill, NC, Ruby B. Watson of Rocky Mount, NC, Fannie B. Kee (Lewis) of Jackson, NC, Ella B. Whitaker of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Minnie B. Moody of Pleasant Hill, NC, Brenda B. Atkins of Brooklyn, NY, Iris B. Jerman (Wilkins) of Bronx, NY and Patricia Boone of Upper Marlboro, MD; two brothers: Rev. Thomas Earl Brown of Pleasant Hill, NC and Melvin D. Brown (Joyce) of Lakewood, NJ; favorite nephews: Dennis Jenkins of Roanoke Rapids, NC and George Crowell of Milwaukee, WI; three aunts: Elizabeth Taylor of Charlotte, NC, Dorothy Butler of Ahoskie, NC and Margaret Clanton of Bronx, NY; sister-in-law: Curly Brown of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a host of nieces, other nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Cofield Mortuary on Thursday, August 18, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. from the Memorial Chapel of Cofield Mortuary with Rev. Gregory L. Evans delivering the eulogy.

Interment will follow in the Brown Family Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, NC.

The Cofield Family and Staff extends their heartfelt sympathy and continued support to the Brown Family during and after this period of bereavement.
